Meaning
より marks the thing you compare against. The adjective at the end says how A differs from B. The order is reversed from English: Japanese says “A, compared to B, is big”.

Usage notes
Order is flexible
You can put the standard first: Bより Aは Adjective. The meaning is the same.
Degree words
Put ずっと (far more), もっと (even more) or 少し (a little) before the adjective. Do not use とても.
Tense follows the adjective
Only the adjective and です change. より never changes.
Works with verbs
Use an adverb: 弟は私より速く走ります。
