JLPT December 2026 City-Wise Overview

The Japan Foundation and JEES set one global exam date — Sunday, December 6, 2026 — but every Indian test city is run by an independent host institution, each with its own portal, opening date, and fee. Here's the current status of each, checked directly against the host institution's own site.

New Delhi — MOSAI

MOSAI (Mombusho Scholars Association of India) runs New Delhi's centre and has confirmed that the online application for JLPT December 2026 opens in August 2026, on a first-come, first-served basis until seats are filled.

• STEP 1

  Prepare your photo ID scan

  Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving Licence, Passport, or PAN Card — clear background, JPG/JPEG, 100–200 KB.

• STEP 2

  Prepare your passport photo scan

  Clear background, JPG/JPEG, 50–100 KB. Selfies are not accepted.

• STEP 3

  Sign up and confirm your email

  Click the confirmation link sent to your inbox (check spam) before the form unlocks.

• STEP 4

  Fill the form and pay

  Pay via wallet, UPI, credit/debit card, or net banking (UPI preferred). A Transaction Number confirms your application — without it, the form isn't considered submitted.

• STEP 5

  Print and save your confirmation

  Keep the printout and confirmation email for your records; no corrections are allowed after final submission.

PWD applicants applying under the STA category must email mosai.jlpt@gmail.com on or before 20 August 2026; no accommodation is provided without prior approval. Admit cards/hall tickets are dispatched in November 2026, and N1 & N2 are held in the morning session, with N3, N4 & N5 in the afternoon.

Pune — JALTAP

JALTAP (Japanese Language Teachers' Association, Pune) is the official host for Pune's centre. As of this check, JALTAP's site has not yet published the December 2026 application window — only feedback forms from the July 2026 sitting are live. Candidates should monitor jaltap.org.in directly for the opening date, expected around August–September 2026 in line with the national pattern, and confirm fees once the notice is posted.

Chennai — ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI

ABK-AOTS DOSOKAI, Tamil Nadu Centre, runs Chennai's exam through its dedicated portal, jlptchennaiindia.com, and has published exact dates and fees for December 2026.

• STEP 1

  Registration window

  Opens Saturday, 1 August 2026, 10:00 AM and closes Monday, 31 August 2026, 5:00 PM — first-come, first-served; each level closes automatically once its seat limit is reached.

• STEP 2

  Register and apply

  Sign up and complete the online application form on jlptchennaiindia.com.

• STEP 3

  Pay and get your reference number

  Pay online via credit/debit card or net banking to receive your reference number.

• STEP 4

  Download your hall ticket

  Available online a few weeks before the exam.

Exam venues: N1, N2 (forenoon) and N3, N5 (afternoon) at Velammal Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mogappair East; N4 (afternoon) at Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College, Kodambakkam.

Bengaluru — BNK

Bangalore Nihongo Kyooshikai (BNK) is the official Bangalore examination centre, running its portal at jlpt.bnkindia.in. Applications for December 2026 are expected to open around August 2026; the exact date was not yet live at the time of this check. For reference, the December 2025 window ran from 5 August to 31 August 2025.

Kolkata — IJWCA

The Indo-Japan Welfare and Cultural Association (IJWCA) has changed its process for December 2026: it is now a two-step system — an online token followed by collecting and submitting a physical application form in person. Walk-in application without a token is no longer accepted.

• STEP 1

  Secure an online token

  Get your token via the link on IJWCA's official site before visiting the office.

• STEP 2

  Collect the physical form

  Visit the IJWCA office at 2B, Asraf Mistri Lane (18/4 Pramathesh Barua Sarani, Ballygunge Circular Road), Kolkata – 700019, during office hours (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM).

• STEP 3

  Submit the completed form

  Return the filled form in person; candidates applying from outside Kolkata should contact IJWCA directly (033-2475-3773) to confirm whether a postal route is available.

Exam date at this centre is Sunday, 6 December 2026, consistent with the global JLPT schedule.

Mumbai — TAOJ

Santiniketan — Visva-Bharati

The JLPT centre at Santiniketan is run by the Department of Japanese, Bhasha-Bhavana, Visva-Bharati University. This centre conducts only the July session each year — there is no December sitting at Santiniketan. Candidates in this region planning for December 2026 will need to register at Kolkata or another nearby centre instead.
